Tip 1: The name field
The first tip has everything to do with the name field. Many people list their own name here, or the name of their business. It is better to enlist aside of your name, your industry, core business, location etc. Instagram is implementing more and more SEO functions, and the name field is one of these functions. When people start looking in the search bar of Instagram, Instagram will scan the name field to enlist the right results. This means that when your target audience is looking for a specific business, they will often search for ‘photographer’ or ‘mindfulness coach’, rather than ‘John Doe’. If you implement either one of the 3 elements (industry, core business, location), you’ll pop up more often in the search results. An example of the name field could be: ‘Jessica | Interior Stylist’.
Second, I would like to talk about clarity. Consumers don’t have the time to look for hours on your profile. This is because we live in a fast-paced society, where free time is becoming a luxury. To get to the quick scan done by consumers, it is important to be as clear as possible. Who are you, what do you do, and how can you help your (potential) client? Introduce yourself in a couple of sentences, be straight to the point, but try to trigger your ideal clients. If you trigger them, it will be more likely that they will stick on your profile for a longer time period.
My third tip is all about CTA’s, ‘call-to-action’. It is a clever more to use these, because you trigger new potential clients, next to communicating clearly. You can only use 1 URL in your bio, so use the CTA in combination with the URL (you enlist your URL in the website field). Explain to your potential clients why they should go to the URL. What can they find there? Make it as attractive as possible, because when people go to your website, they already made the first move!
The last (but certainly not least) tip has everything to do with contact details. I’ll say it for the last time: STOP SHARING YOUR CONTACT DETAILS IN THE TEXT FIELD OF YOUR BIO! If you have a business profile, you can enlist these contact details at the contact field, which generated a button. With this button people can get in touch with you, without you having to compromise some limited characters in your bio.
And? Do you see some points you could implement yourself? Or do you struggle with certain elements? Please let me know. I would love to brainstorm together with you. You can find me on Instagram, by going to: https://www.instagram.com/hashtagk_/
